Founder and first commander of the Israeli Submarine Flotilla
Submariner No. 1

A member of the Palmach’s naval force and a pioneer of Israel’s naval commando, he fought against the British deportation policy and took part in operations against the deportation ship Ocean Vigour and the arms ship Lino. He founded and commanded the Israeli submarine force and was the first commander of INS Tanin.

Born in Poland on 21 January 1925, he moved with his family to Mexico as a young child and immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1930. He died while hiking on Mount Stromboli, Italy, on 29 June 1976, and was buried at Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael.

The new submarine base in Haifa was named in his honour: Ma’agan Dror.
